She wore the dress, and i stayed home...

My sister Heather, or Mrs. H, as Aaron and I once nicknamed her back in the day (And for your sake Heather, the full nickname and the reason for it will remain annonymous), is the best and it just happens to be her birthday today!! So this post goes out to you Heather!!

Here are just a few things i love about her:

-She is the best advice giver i can think of. Granted, she's not very good at keeping secrets, so i don't come to her always for advice because if i do, suddenly the whole family seems to know my business, but when i need it, she's there for me! She is the backbone of my trust circle, most of the time!

-She makes the best roadtrip mixes! From back in Highschool when we made a couple trips up to Chicago to the New York mix from this summer. You know exactly what music makes for the best roadtrips! (didn't see that one coming did ya??)

-She is such a great example to me in so many ways. I love how great of a Mom you are to Ethan and Kailey. I learned so much this summer just by watching you and you get me really excited to become a mom someday.

-I love that your so stylish! Shopping with you is the best, not only because you help me pick out cute clothes and give me honest opinions about how they look but because your the best at finding sales! Plus, i love that we can share clothes. When living close by it's like having 2 closets (except when your pregnant!).

-I love that you know how to cook so well! Not only has that kept me fed on numerous occasions but i loved learning how this summer from you!

There are so many more things i love about you, but i'm running low and brain power right now and can't think. Thanks for being the best sister i could ask for!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I LOVE YOU!!!

Its good to be back

This semester has been unlike any in my college life. Mostly because I've actually made an effort at being social and I've quite enjoyed it, BUT we all knew it wouldn't last forever, right?? Brooke, the anti-social hermit is back and better than ever. This is the first Saturday night in a loooong time that I haven't gone out, at all! I think i've left my room maybe twice, once to get Taco Bell and once to brush my teeth (i hate aftertastes in my mouth!) The best part about this is, i had quite a few different things i could have done tonight with various people, but nope, i just felt like staying at home, talking to no one, eating food that's bad for me, watching lots of TV and going to bed early. It's the good life and I have missed it. By nature, i'm a creature of solitude, why mess with nature right?? That's why i'm going into a major that requires little ot no human contact, just me and some specimens and my microscope. fan-freaking-tastic!

JAZZ GAME!!

Yesterday i attended my very first NBA Basketball game!! It was the greatest night of my life...okay that might be a bit of an exaggeration but it was dang fun. I went with my friend Kat and a couple of her friends and we had a blast! The Jazz played the Houston Rockets, so i got to see Yao Ming, which was pretty exciting. He's just as uncoordinated in real life as he seems on TV, but i'd probably be just the same if i was 7'6". After a pretty rough start, the Jazz came back and won it 99-86!! Kat and I tried to scream so loud that we lost our voices but by the end of the game i only had a tickle in my throat. I guess i'm just not as hardcore of a fan as i thought i was. In honor of being there, Kat took all of the pictures with a blue accent so we came out with some pretty cool ones!

Calf wrestling

and last but certainly not least here is the video of me when i caught my calf for tagging!

Idaho: part 2

Some other thing we did while in Idaho was we harvested honey! That was really cool, i'd never seen how it was done before.
After lunch or just when we needed to rest for a sec we'd go and nap on the trampoline. On our way home we stopped by the Malad Gorge and the Boise temple. I'd never seen it, it was beautiful, i'm glad we stopped even though it was freezing!

Idaho: part 1

There are no words to describe the weekend that i had. end of story.

Some friends of mine have a farm up in Weiser, Idaho and so a bunch of us decided to go visit for the weekend. We left Thursday afternoon a little after 4. Stopped only twice, once at the Idaho border......and in Burley, Idaho to get gas. We finally got there around 11:30ish that night. All in all the driving went pretty fast.

The next two days we did a lot of different stuff. We shot guns...twice. If i could remember the specifics of what we shot, i'd let you know but all i know is we shot some black powder guns, some .22 rifles and handguns, 20 and 12 gauge shotguns, as well as a bunch of other ones i don't remember what they were. It was awesome.
We fed cows every morning and night. This consisted of us all riding on a bunch of hay bales on the back of a tractor and pushing them off as we went through the herd of cows.

I got to feed a baby calf.
And catch a baby calf.
I held a chicken.
I rode a little pony.
and did a whole lot of other things....

Gratitude

As i laid here tonight in bed, not being able to sleep, partially because i have things on my mind and partially because i took a nice long nap this afternoon, i found my mind wandering and i realized that despite my life being far from ideal, i have a lot to be grateful for. I should really learn to focus on those things more than what might be lacking in my life, because I am so lucky to have what i have.

I have a family who is by far the best family on earth for me. They are my best friends and i come to appreciate them all more and more everyday. I use to not grasp how lucky i am to be the youngest in my family, but it's been a definite blessing in my life to be at the end in my family so i could learn and grow from my siblings wonderful (only sometimes) examples.

I have some awesome friends. Friends that listen to me vent about the same subjects over and over again. Friends that allow me to drag them on random adventures. Friends that really know and understand me and that have constantly been there when i've needed them. Good friends are often hard to find. I've been lucky in my life to have the opportunity of knowing some really great people. I can only hope i've been as good of a friend to them as they have been to me.

I have the opportunity to gain an education. And not just anywhere but at BYU. I know that it sounds really cliche, but it's been a huge blessing in my life to be here. Where else can you start class with a prayer or meet thousands of other kids that have basically the same standards as you?? Not only is it a great environment but you really do gain a quality education. And plus there's mountains all around, which i love.

I have the knowledge that my Heavenly Father loves me and that is more than enough to turn even the worst day into a good one. For that, i am grateful.

That doesn't even begin to sum up the things i'm grateful for but it hits on some of the bigger points. If i began to list EVERYTHING i'm grateful for we could be here for awhile. For example, just to name a few: i'm grateful for milk and cereal, warm blankets, beautiful weather, the workout i get every morning going up the stairs to campus, 50 cent ice cream cones at Macey's, and oh so much more.

Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy -- because we will always want to have something else or something more.

I spy, with my little eye....

Soooo...at the MOA (BYU's Museum of Art, they have an exhibit on Walter Wick who is the author of the "I Spy" books and when i found out that it was coming I got really excited. Yesterday was the first day i had a chance to go see it. One of my classes got out early so i rallied up my study partner Bryce (Brooke:1 Kat:0---and the competition begins) to waste some time with me and go see it. It was pretty cool. I have to admit, it wasn't nearly as cool as i had pictured it my head but still pretty awesome. It was really cool to see how he made a lot of his photos and how he got his start into the I Spy business. This is one of my favorite pictures in all of his books. I think the dinosaur is really sweet looking.

Yesterday was not only exciting because i got to go see an I Spy exhibit but, Caitlin and I went hiking as well. sort of. It was beautiful out yesterday and so she called and said she wanted to go play outside and i said, lets do it! And so we drove up to Bridal Veil falls (because it was getting dark and we didn't want to do a full on hike) and just walked up that path for awhile. But who would have guessed that it would still be covered with almost a foot of snow?? Not us! On either side of the path, there was hardly any snow, but on the path...tons of it. So here we are in our t-shirts, treading lightly so as to stay on top of the snow...it didn't work so well though. By the end, our feet were soaked. It was fun though. Cait and I always encounter fun adventures like that. What fun would life be without them? I wish i would've had my camera, it was definitley a picture worthy event.
